Frequently Asked Questions

What credentials do your pet sitters have?
We have several years of professional pet sitting and home care experience as well as a deep love for all animals. Rachel’s Pet Sitting only hires employees, not IC’s. This means that all of our sitters are fully bonded and insured. They also have workers compensation benefits. Each employee has gone through an in-depth interview process and passed extensive background and motor vehicle checks before setting foot in your home. Once they are on the team they are put through several hours of in person training and certified in Pet First Aid & CPR.

Can I request a specific time for visits?
We cannot guarantee specific times for visits due to busy scheduling, multiple clients, traffic, and other unforeseen circumstances However, we will always make sure to space vacation visits appropriately according to your pet’s regular schedule, last completed visit, etc. We will also take into account your specific time preferences whenever possible.
How do I get started?
Please contact us by our form on the “contact us” section of our website. You can also give us a call at 704-962-6839 to discuss your pet care needs. Once we decide you are our service area and we may be a good fit, we will send you a link to our online software and scheduling program called Time to Pet. By following the link you will be able to sign our service agreement, add/edit you and your pets info, view our insurance info, and schedule service including a free meet and greet.
How do I schedule service?

All visits are scheduled online through a user-friendly software program called Time To Pet.

New clients will need to request to be set up in the system.

Existing clients have the ability to log in to their portal at any time to add/update account info, schedule service, view our service agreement and insurance info, etc.

Do you require a minimum number of visits?

For vacation scheduling we require a minimum of 1 visit per day for cats and 2 visits per day for dogs for each 24 hour period. In our personal experience this enables us to provide the best possible care for your pets while also ensuring their safety and reducing stress.

Can I schedule every other day visits for my cat?
We require a 1 visit per day minimum for cats for health and safety reasons.
What is your cancellation policy?

We try to provide pet care for as many families as possible, so our schedule can quickly become full. This means that some families will not be able to receive our services. For this reason we ask that you give us as much notice as possible when canceling or making changes to visits.

Regular Cancellation Policy – For cancellations with 72 hours or less notice we charge a fee of 40% of the scheduled visits. For cancellations with 24 hours or less notice we charge the full amount of the scheduled visits.

Holiday Cancellation Policy – For cancellations with 7 days or less notice we charge a fee of 50%. For cancellations with 72 hour or less notice we charge the full amount of the scheduled visits

Do you charge extra for holidays?
Yes, we charge an extra $5 per visit during recognized holiday periods which include Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.
Do you have any other fees?

Late night & Weekend Fee: Although we absolutely love our clients and our pets we also recognize that pet sitting during specific days and times means that we are away from our own friends, family, and pets and unable to attend many events. For this reason, we have a $5 surcharge for each visit scheduled during the weekend on Sat and Sun and for each visit scheduled in the 6:00 pm or later Monday – Sunday.

Late Scheduling Fee: We do our best to accommodate all pet sitting requests. We understand situations may come up or emergencies arise that don’t allow for proper planning. We are happy to help but unfortunately last-minute booking forces us to shift our set schedule and route for the day. For this reason, we charge $10 extra per visit scheduled with 24 hours or less notice.

How will you ensure that my home is safe and secure while I am away?

Your home’s security is just as important to us as your pet’s well being which is why we never advertise our pet sitting and home care services on our vehicles or clothing while pet sitting. If we put pictures of your pets online, they will not be posted until after you return home. We make sure to carefully follow home entry and security system instructions that you provide. We will also follow any home care instructions which may include turning on/off certain lights, opening/closing shades, etc.
